How did you get into the sport?
I have always loved to ride a bike!
But in terms of competition, I’d have to say that I got into Triathlon first which gave me the love for going fast and up against others.
Hardest thing about your sport?
Being consistent when the weather tells you otherwise. Luckily we have Zwift and smart trainers!
Fitting in my training can also be a challenge – the demands on my time with running a business, family and kids commitments does make for a busy week!
What does your regular training week consist of?
6 sessions on the bike which is a healthy mix of HIIT, strength work, perhaps some time trialling, racing and definitely recovery sessions!
How do you keep motivated?
The desire to stay fit and strong as we age is a serious motivator for me.
Particularly as a Masters racer.
To be ready to enter any event that I like and have the fitness to just jump in. That’s a great driver to stay at it!
Also, a really good program that gives me the structure and variety I need, to keep it interesting, is essential. Knowing that doing these sessions will help me to keep lifting the bar, year after year, is a fantastic motivator.
Goals (Future Plans and Career Expectations)
I would really love to become a stronger time trialler. Not only to improve in these particular races but because it really does give you another ‘weapon’ in your racing arsenal. The ability to ride at threshold is a powerful range to add into the mix and I feel we have lots to explore in this space!
I also want to be more competitive in my open B racing at a local level.
No real lofty race result goals nor events at the moment, but I’m hoping that improving the former will take care of the latter!
Best Piece of Advice you have received?
A few wise words have been passed to me.
Pay now or pay later, you always have to pay! ie just do the hard sessions!
Keep your ambition vs ability in alignment.
Do today what others won’t, so tomorrow you can do what others can’t. Thanks JD for that one.
