How did you get into the sport?
Team-sport enthusiast as a kid, turned to Sprint and Olympic Triathlon throughout University (courtesy of TriChicks!), which inevitably led to half-ironmans, long-course triathlons, and Ironman during my first years of full-time work. Decided I wanted to just focus on running for some time, so now just balancing the intricacies of marathon training and trail running with a side of cycling; alongside my career as a physiotherapist, my partner in crime (fiance!) and 5-year-old floof ball golden retriever!
Hardest thing about your sport?
Choosing what events to do, and then which ones to really ‘have a go’ at. Also, knowing how much to push the barrier to improve, without pushing too far and getting injured, the hardest part when training lots alongside full-time work is learning to take the recovery and nutrition just as seriously as the training!
What does your regular training week consist of?
Lots of walking, jogging, sessions on the treadmill, cycling approx 100-200kms per week with a bunch, running with my local harriers club, social catchups at the sauna, a gym session or two, a long run (somewhere off road, out on gravel or in the trails!) and either adventures or naps with my 5-year-old. Golden retriever!
How do you keep motivated?
By scheduling in races/goals that excite me! But then also just enjoying the satisfaction of ticking off days, weeks and months of the mundane training – knowing the feeling of elation you get when you cross a finish line, knowing all the hard work that you have put into it 🙂
Goals (Future Plans and Career Expectations):
Continue to balance my professional career as a full-time physiotherapist with my love for running and see where it takes me.
2026 Goals: The main goal is to focus on the Sydney Marathon!
- Run Tara Bulga 42km Trail Run – lovely local event!
- Have a go at getting a PB over the half-marathon at the Inverloch Half Marathon
- Have another go at the Half Marathon in Ballarat
- Wilson’s Prom Trail Run in May
- Run the Sydney Marathon as part of the High Performance Program and aim for a PB
- Participate in the Athletics Victoria XC Season as part of the Traralgon Harriers Team
Unsure what the rest of the year will look like after the Sydney Marathon, but hopefully, I’ll jump into some more Trail Running Events! – Surf Coast Century, Stromlo, Roller Coaster Run, 4Peaks again…
