How did you get into the sport?
Callum Roberts is a passionate young cross-country mountain bike racer from the ACT who thrives on the challenge, freedom, and intensity of off-road racing. Growing up around the sport, Callum was inspired by watching his dad compete and travelling with him to race locations across the country. That early exposure sparked a love for mountain biking that quickly turned competitive.
At just 9 years old, Callum lined up for his first XCO race in 2019, and since then he’s been steadily building his skills, strength, and results. With a strong work ethic and a clear vision for the future, he’s already proving himself as one of the exciting young riders to watch in Australian cross-country mountain biking.
Hardest thing about your sport?
For Callum, the biggest challenges in cross-country mountain biking aren’t just the climbs or technical trails — they’re injuries and sickness, which can interrupt training momentum. Staying healthy and consistent is key to continuing improvement in such a demanding endurance sport.
What does your regular training week consist of?
Callum’s training week is built around structured endurance and performance work designed for cross-country racing.
A typical training week includes:
- 2–3 high-intensity interval sessions
- 4 long endurance rides to build race durability
His fueling strategy plays a big role in performance, using HEED during interval sessions and Perpetuem on long endurance rides to support sustained energy and recovery.
How do you keep motivated?
Callum stays driven by focusing on the journey as much as the results:
- Trusting the process and gradual build of fitness
- Maintaining strong training habits and routine
- The feeling of being fit, strong, and race-ready
- Chasing personal bests
- Preparing for the next race
- Spending time outdoors on the bike
