Any 4-7 hour plus event such as the Australian Long Course Triathlon Championships requires special nutritional consideration.

Getting the nutrition wrong on the day will drastically effect your performance. All those hard long hours of training and sacrifices (along with the financial commitments) can be wasted with the wrong nutritional choices!

Nutrition Advice

Nutrition on the day is your most important consideration. Hammer Nutrition strongly advises the following;

1. Keep fluid intake during exercise between 550-800/ml per hour.
2. Keep Calorie consumption to a maximum of 300 cal / hour. (1260 kj/ Hr)
3. Measure exactly what calories/kj you are consuming. Taking too much is worse than not enough!
4. Separate your hydration from your nutrition to stop confusion.
5. Only consume complex Carbohydrates. Make sure you add a soy protein in the mix. Avoid simple sugars until the last 30mins.
6. Use some form of extra Electrolyte supplementation. The longer your event the more you will need this.
