Chris Stanton Update

Chris is a sponsored Hammer Nutrition athlete who is currently in the Boulder, Colorado training for the Hawaiian Ironman.

He's a popular Australian athlete so I thought I'd share his latest update to me.

6th At Yepoon

All was going great for Chris including a 6th at the Rydges Yepoon Half Ironman in August as his first race for a while, followed by an 8th in the Cologne Classic Long Course Championships in Germany on September 2.

Then it was back to Boulder for more training, a long and windy mountain road and a crash.

"Hello David

Had a bit of a crash today on the bike.

Myself, Macca (Chris McCormack), and Cam Widoff did this 2hr climb to a spectacular mountain top, that was about 11500 feet above sea level.

The temp at the base of the mountains was 35deg and at the top it would have only been 15deg.

Anyway we were descending down the climb at about 60km/hr and it was a pretty windy road.
The last thing that I remember is going past Macca down a hill and him saying "Take it easy Stanto", my reply being "It's all good."

30 secs later I reached this sharp right hand turn............I had now run out of road and was on the other side of the road."

Chris Jumped Before The Edge!

Chris put the bike down before he went over the edge and has hurt his AC (shoulder) joint.

Chris is still of to Hawaii to support his mates and says he's keep working on the injury up to race day and make a decision then.

Good luck Chris.

Cheers

Not Bad For An Old Guy! Campbell's Ironman

Just a quick update on Campbell (see the post below) who has finished the Switzerland Ironman (his last Ironman) in a solid 9 hours 42 minutes.

He mentioned he struggled a bit on the ride.

"What an event...the Europeans have a way of adding something extra and intangible to almost everything, be it architecture, food, etc, and this race was just the same.

Zurich looked at its best, and was the scene for a day of athletic and emotional extremes.

The promise of a great atmosphere, course, organisation and just those little extra things made it such a worthwhile and (mostly!!) satisfying event to be part of.

And for me the best part was finishing...I had the whole finish chute to myself and took a little bit of liberty to use it, and enjoy it!!

Thank god that's over."

Well done mate.

Campbell is one of our favourite athletes we sponsor with Hammer products - he's a veteran racer with a ton of great races under his belt.

  • 2006 - Gold Coast Marathon - 13th place overall, 2:32hrs

  • 2006 - Hawaii Ironman Triathlon - 9:41hrs

  • 2006 - Shepparton 1/2 Ironman - 3rd M35-39 **

  • 2007 - Australian Sprint Distance Ch'ship - 6th M35-39 **

  • 2007 - Australian Long Course Ch'ships - 1st M35-39

  • 2007 - Australian Olympic Distance Ch'ships - 1st M35-39

  • 2007 - Gatorade Series finale,Portarlington - 1st M35-39

  • 2007 - Australian Ironman Triathlon - 9:38hrs, 6th M35-39

Switzerland Ironman June 24 - His Last Ironman

Campbell's last Ironman is this Sunday in Zurich - he's completing the hugely popular Switzerland Ironman. "(It's) known the world over...in IM> circles, that is...for being a huge, full-on and massive event. Not because of the field size - Swiss IM will have about 1800 - but because it attracts literally tens and tens of thousands of spectators. Think Tour de France crowds lining the mountain climbs, and apparently that's what's in store for us. Wow, how cool is that going to be??" Then The Togs, Knicks & Runners Will Be Hung Up This is Campbell's last Ironman, but I'm sure he'll retain his great competitive spirit and keep up his fit and healthy lifestyle. "To put it simply this trip is a last hurrah at doing an Ironman (IM) distance triathlon. Each IM is a soul searching experience...and my soul just ain't up to being stretched in that way (anymore).

So before it goes all limp and droopy...well, quit while you're ahead."
All the best Campbell. And congratulations on a terrific career.

Chris Stanton Wins Long Course Tri With Hammer

Chris Stanton is the 2006 Long Course Triathlon World Champion (M 20-24). He's only been competing for 3 years now, and he's got big plans for the future.

Says Chris:
Within the next 10-15 years I see triathlon as being my major focus. Key to this focus is being able to spend the required time training specifically for each event that I compete in. In order to achive my desired goals, outside support will be required along the way from family, friends and sponsors.
We're happy to announce that Hammer Nutrition is now one of Chris' sponsors!

Welcome Chris, as our newest Sponsored Athlete.

WooHoo For Wu - Australian Champion!

Hammer Nutrition sponsored athlete and all-round great gal Michelle Wu (she makes me say that!) blitzed the field at the weekend's Australian Olympic Distance Championship and was crowned the

National Age Group Champion

That's right - Michelle is the fastest Age Group woman in Australia over the Olympic Distance!

Michelle took out the overall female age group race last weekend in Geelong, which was also the 6th race of the National Series.

Along the way she also took out the F20-24 title, earning herself a free Aussie race uniform for the 2007 World Age Group Champs later this year in Germany in September!

1,500 Age Group Competitors

In a field of 1,500 age group competitors, Michelle was the first female across the line in a time of 2:13:07.

Michelle has always been a huge fan of our endurance nutrition and was kind enough to say:

"Your support has been fantastic this season and I thank you for everything! I would not have this title without all your assistance :0)"

Oh shucks!

Congratulations to Michelle. What a wonderful young woman (she doesn't make me say that!).

"Too Much Michelle Is Barely Enough!"

As Roy & HG would say "Too much Michelle is barely enough!"

Just got these photos of Michelle Wu through (Michelle had a great win in Hobart 9 or so days ago).

Michelle always seems to have a smile on her face - must be because she's clever enough to stick here name on her swimmers so she doesn't lose them!

Good thinking Michelle!

And The Bike She Loves

And Michelle's great love is, of course, her Felt bike - here she is zooming along, looking a picture of concentration.

Michelle Wu In Huge Win

Michelle is one of our sponsored athletes and very enthusiastic user of our products. She also happens to be an exceptional triathlete who competed in the National Series in Hobart last weekend.

Here's Michelle's email:

Hi David

Just to let you know I competed in the female Age Group race in the National Series last weekend.

38 Degrees C In Hobart!

You wouldn't believe it but it got to 38 degrees C in Hobart (wasn't expecting that!) - wasn't too bad as the swim started at 7 am, so we missed a bit of the heat.

I got out of the swim leg in 6th place, but a good 3 minutes behind the leader. With some sharp hills and lots of u-turns the bike leg was tough.

Threw some HEED and then gels down me and away I went.

Felt Great During The Bike

Felt great during the bike even though it was hot and tough. I managed to record the 2nd fastest bike split of the day - It wasn't only the Hammer stuff (!!) - I also have a great Felt F1C bike that makes a bit of a difference :o)

Anyhow, I kept up the HEED and felt good and set off after the leader - I was just on 30 seconds behind. I made that up pretty quickly (within the first K) and managed to record the fastest run split for the day (39 minutes).

Australian Championships on March 4

Australian Olympic Distance Champs in Geelong on the 4th March - I am hoping for a strong performance, but I can only do my best and see what happens!

(maybe I'll have some birthday luck as I turn 24 on the 3rd March! :D)

Thanks again for your support David. Loving the help.

Michelle

Great work Michelle. And good luck in Geelong.

"Most Of Our Squad Are Using It And Love It."

Sean Foster is a former top pro Triathlete we've sponsored for years and a great guy to boot (not that I've ever kicked him!).

Sean's very well known in the endurance events industry and he is the Head Coach at the respected Fluid Movements - a big Triathlon squad with over 200 members (he runs it with Melbourne Tri Club).

He was telling me that "...most of squad use Hammer products.

The Recoverite is excellent and really helps in getting us from 1 session to the next.
Most of our squad are using it and love it."

If you're in Melbourne and keen for some triathlon coaching, Sean's your man.

Here's a bit of what Sean has achieved:
  • 13 Ironman events
  • 2 x Hawaii Ironmans
  • Fastest swim split is 48:54 for 3.8km in Ironman California
  • Fastest bike split is 4:48 for 180km in Australia at Forster Tuncurry 2002
  • Fastest Ironman marathon time of 2:55:21 in Australia
Sean's also featured on our Sponsored Athletes page.

AROC 24 Hour Adventure Race Run & Won

As regular readers might know we have a pretty strong involvement with many of the best endurance and adventure races in Australia.

Just received this through from the guys at the AROC 24 Hour Adventure.
=======================

"Hi David,

Hope you are doing good.

Thank you for partnering with us on our AROC 24 Hour Adventure on 27-28 January 2007 on the Eurobodalla Coast.

Was a beauty of a course and competitors were thrilled with the diversity of the terrain and the intense racing Tom had prepared for them!

The weather played its part as in every race and threw some nasty swell on the shore, rendering paddling, coasteering and snorkeling challenging to say the least!

The event was still a great success for all and you are part of it through your provision of hydration/nutrition for the event.

There are more competitors' reports and plenty more photos on our website: www.arocsport.com.au."

Sounds like a great race and glad we could contribute in our small way.

You can see the AROC 24 Hour Adventure Report here (PDF file).

"Hey just wanted to say thanks!

Did my first 24hr Solo on the weekend at the Kona 24 and got second O/R!

I used your Perpetuem almost exclusively and a few gels towards the end.

I was really impressed with the clean natural feeling of the products and the long term energy and support they provided.

Well done on such great products!

Regards

Tom"

Thanks Tom

Glad our products helped so much.

It's probably worth noting (bragging??!) that the 1st solo female in the race was the talented Alexandra Kiendl - congratulations Alex - who also uses our products.

Michelle Wu Joins The Hammer Team

Michelle Wu, one of Australian' most exciting new Triathlon Talents has joined the Hammer Team.

Michelle only started triathlon 2 years ago ( 2004), and having already represented Australia in the World Championships this year gaining a bronze medal in the 20-24 year age group, her future looks extremely promising.

Michelle is with the Tridents in the ACT.

Fastest Age Group Female

Last year she was the fastest age group female in 3 National Series events. What a great achievement !

Being an avid user of Hammer Products already, it was a great match.

Michelle is a great ambassador for the sport and our products. Working with Michelle this year, she hopes to move up to the professional ranks soon. It's our goal to provide her with the right nutrition to get her there!

As with all our sponsorships, it's not about the $, it's about what you do and what you stand for.

Good Luck Michelle.

McCormack Primed for Hawaiian Ironman

I went long to the Gold Coast Half-Ironman at Coomera yesterday - we were one of the sponsors - and saw Chris McCormack break the Gold Coast record by 1 minute 10 secs.

Chris finished in a very quick 3hr 53min 5sec in fairly warm conditions.

Chris looks very solid coming into the famous Hawaiian Ironman next month and I imagine the conditions yesterday, whilst not nearly as humid as Hawaii, would have him primed.

Good luck in Hawaii Chris.

Terrific Turnout

It was a terrific turnout on the day and we received tons of great feedback about our products at the pre-race Expo. I was also amazed at how many people commented on how good the web site is now.

You kind of know people read it, but when so many people come up and say hello because they've been reading the site, it makes sense of those growing visitor numbers we see each month!

Brilliant Alexandra Kiendl Sponsored By Hammer Nutrition

Another delightful person - and elite athlete - who we sponsor (we've just started) is Alexandra Kiendl.

Alex just won the Subaru Interactive Melbourne 12hr Enduro race we sponsored earlier this month.

Alex's next big race is the 2006 Australian 24hr Championship in Canberra in October - check out Alex's profile in that race here.

She is also hoping to win the Victorian Enduro Series 2006, which she is currently dominating.

Alex mentioned in one of her first emails to me that "that the product (Hammer Gel) helped me to get to the top of the Podium at Melbourne 12hour Enduro held last Saturday."

Welcome Alex. We're thrilled that you've found our products so effective!

Alex In Action

Just in case you think Alex looks far too petite to be one of the country's leading enduro riders, here are a couple of pics of her in action.

Check out Alex's own web site here.

Legacy 100km Run - Report From Wayne Heath

One of the things we don't do is sponsor high profile athletes with cash.

We find it much better (and fairer) to sponsor athletes who actually use our products in the sort of endurance sports the products were designed for.

Supporting the athletes who support us makes sense to us.

Anyway, here's an email I recently received from Wayne Heath. Wayne, along with some friends, has just completed the Legacy 100km Run.

We sponsored the run with
========================

Hi David

Well the run was a great success. We ended up finishing in 10hr 15, including 2 x30min breaks and 1 x 10min, so all up, around 9 hrs running.

The bike speedo had us running at 12.4km per hour.

The supplements were great, we used Perpetuem for the entire day and a couple of raspberry gels after 85km to help us home. We mixed 1 scoop (30g) per 250ml (pop top) bottle and consumed 2 per hr.

The team hand over the giant cheque - great effort!

Throughout the whole day neither Pat or I felt hungry which was alot different from our training runs when not using Hammer.

"...will use it during the upcoming Scott 24hr Mountain Bike Race..."

In fact one of support crew riders, Linden Bleijie was also very impressed with Perpetuem that he will be using it during the upcoming "Scott 24hr Mountain Bike Race" held in Canberra during October.

Linden will be riding the race solo.

Probably the best thing about the supplements was the feeling of being mentally aware and never feeling like we were on the edge of bonking throughout the day.

We ended up raising $8,076.55 for Legacy.

Thank you very much for your support and sponsoring the run through your product.

Cheers

It's probably the world's best 12hr MTB Enduro.

It is an off road endurance mountain bike race for solo entrants, plus relay teams of either 2,3,4 or 6 people made up of any level of ability. If you own a mountain bike then this event is for you!

Team Hammer Wins Kokoda Challenge

Team Hammer had a sensation win in the gruelling Kokoda Challenge a 96km run/walk/crawl through the most rugged terrain possible in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

The Challenge is a cross-country, bushwalking team event over 96kms which represents the distance of the Kokoda Track, to be completed within 39 hours which symbolises the 39th Militia Battalion, the first of our Australian troops to arrive at Kokoda, 15 th July 1942.

All 4 members of the starting team need to finish.

The Team Are Ready To Go

Team Hammer Stun Officials

Team Hammer stunned the race organisers with a brilliant effort taking just over 12 hrs.

And according to Don Wallace, a legend in endurance running events, Hammer Nutrition products played a big part in the win (along with the many hours of training by the guys!).

"I have no problem at all with recommending Hammer Nutrition products to any endurance athlete. I have been involved in ultra running, in distances up to 100 km for 16 years and have used various products for fuelling.

I found that the information from Hammer Nutrition's website was very good for any endurance athlete, from the complete novice to a seasoned competitor.

From my own experience
there are quite a few choices on the market for fuelling in endurance events. Some are of little real value and other are simply a marketing gimmick.

"Remained Palatable Over The Duration..."

I found the
Hammer Nutrition products to be really developed well for their intended purpose. I was pleased to find the products remained palatable over the duration of the event and the range of products helped provide all nutritional needs."

Thanks Don. And congratulations to the team on another amazing effort.

For further information on the Kokoda Challenge, go to www.kokodachallenge.com.
